American tiffs with Israel are purely superficial

Earlier this month, the United States was expressing “concern” over renewed Israeli housing construction in the West Bank including the approval of 1,600 settler homes.
To those of us who are aware of the inseparable nature of Israel and America, evidenced by the superior position the Israeli lobby enjoys in the United States, this statement was a bit surprising.
The statement came from the State Department and read, “The United States is deeply concerned by continuing Israeli actions with respect to housing construction in Jerusalem. We have raised this issue with the Israeli government and continue to make our position known.”
The statement continues to posture by stating, “As we have said before, unilateral actions work against efforts to resume direct negotiations and contradict the logic of a reasonable and necessary agreement between the parties.”
To those familiar with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the idea of considering only this as a unilateral action is beyond absurd.
Apparently the United States considers air strikes a bilateral action while only building houses counts as unilateral.
No one heard the United States crying out when the IDF bombed Gaza earlier this month in response to rocket attacks that did not seriously injure nor kill a single Israeli, or even cause any damage.
The Israeli Defense Force was quick to put the blame on Hamas, just as they did for the most recent rocket attacks that have, quite unfortunately, claimed the lives of innocent Israelis.
However, Hamas has adamantly denied these charges since the first attacks earlier this month. To make this clear, Hamas has actually been arresting militants in the Gaza Strip in an effort to curb the attacks.
Contrary to popular belief, or at least what the mainstream media likes to pretend is popular belief, Hamas are not a bunch of backwards, bloodthirsty, brutish terrorists.
They realize that committing terrorist acts will only result in the deaths of more innocent Palestinian children and will undoubtedly harm their attempt to get the recognition they deserve from the United Nations.
As the month of August has unfolded, the situation has become considerably worse for the Palestinians.
Following an attack on Southern Israel from the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, the Israeli air force launched air strikes on Gaza overnight, resulting in the deaths of at least 6 Palestinians.
The attack was blamed on the Popular Resistance Committee, or PRC, out of Gaza by Israel, allegedly aided by a smuggling tunnel between Gaza and Egypt.
Something worth noting is that the air strikes earlier this month were targeting these alleged tunnels that are supposedly used by terrorists to smuggle weapons and carry out terrorist attacks.
One Time blogger aptly points out, “Hamas has, since the Israeli month-long military operation in early 2009 that killed more than 1,200 Palestinians in Gaza, largely enforced a unilateral cease-fire, restraining not only its own fighters but also those of rival organizations — the PRC, Islamic Jihad, the al-Qaeda inspired Salafist groups and others — from launching attacks on Israel.”
As I said above, Hamas knows that the Israeli military will stop at nothing in their question to dominate Palestine and they do not want to do anything to give them more reasons to slaughter their people.
The most recent attacks that resulted in the deaths of 7 Israelis and the injury of at least 30 others were blamed on “Gaza militants” by the Israeli government.
However, local media was reporting that the Israeli government’s air strike targeted a group of PRC militants, allegedly killing one of the field commanders and a leader of the militant organization.
RT has reported that Israeli drones are continuing to fly over the city of Rafah as of earlier today.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear that Israel is not going to stop with their retaliation against the people of Palestine by stating that there was “an attack on a sovereign state” and thus Israel would “retaliate and act accordingly.”
The series of attacks on Israeli targets including a private car, a passenger bus and a military vehicle which resulted in the deaths of two children among others are indeed serious and I am not trying to minimize the loss of life.
That being said, if Israel launches another full-scale attack on Palestine as they have in the past, there is no justification for such retaliation.
To read the Israeli take on the events in detail in a relatively balanced fashion (given it is a mainstream Israeli publication) I recommend this article published in Haaretz today.
Collective punishment is strictly forbidden under international law (not that Israel pays attention to it anyways) and bombing entire areas in response to attacks by a small, independent militant group is completely disproportionate and unjust.
In Hillary Clinton’s official press statement on behalf of the State Department released today she expressed the fact that the United States indeed was never in any way opposed to Israel and effectively implied that the new illegal settlement projects no longer matter.
The statement reads, “The United States condemns today’s attacks in southern Israel and all acts of terrorism in the strongest terms. These brutal and cowardly attacks appear to be premeditated acts of terrorism against innocent civilians. Our deepest condolences go out to the victims, their families and loved ones.
This violence only underscores our strong concerns about the security situation in the Sinai Peninsula. Recent commitments by the Egyptian Government to address the security situation in the Sinai are important and we urge the Egyptian Government to find a lasting resolution.
The United States and Israel are united in the fight against terror. We hope that those involved in the planning of these gruesome attacks will be brought to swift justice. We stand by Israel as our friend, partner, and ally — now and always.”
Israel is much more than the United States’ friend, partner and ally, America and Israel are completely inseparable and Israel has more control over our government than any other lobby.
To deny this is, at this point, to deny reality.
