In their new book, Fool Me Twice: Obama’s Shocking Plans for the Next Four Years Exposed, Aaron Klein and Brenda J. Elliot delineate exactly how Barack Obama will implement radical plans to expedite the transformation of the United States into a socialist state, if he is reelected. One of the prime avenues Obama plans to exploit is to initiate vast government programs to create jobs.
Fool Me Twice meticulously details the stealth with which the Obama Administration and its allies on the left work in order to inculcate their socialist agenda with regard to government jobs. The book outlines the methodology the Left uses to gain credibility with the public:
In nearly every case, we found each plan was crafted and perfected over time by key progressive organizations and activists, usually first promoted in extensive research and policy papers. Many times, the plan at hand was only gradually introduced into legislation pushed by progressive Democrats. Progressive marketing strategists, we found, were then brought in to sell the plan to the American public, cloaking the most radical proposals in the guise of moderation, in the bland-sounding rhetoric of popular social ideals.
The December 2009, American Jobs Plan stated that the government should create jobs by “Putting unemployed people to work in jobs that will benefit their communities.” The Economic Policy Council declared, “If the private sector can’t put people back to work, then the public sector must.” This was a planned and coordinated attack using outside organizations.
Once the seeds of the socialist agenda had been planted in the consciousness of the American mind, the plan took the next step:
Introduce, reintroduce, and cut and paste jobs legislation until they manage to force through more and more taxpayer funded government-controlled jobs and entitlement programs.
For example, on October 7, 2011, The American Jobs Bill of 2011, Obama’s baby, failed to pass the Senate. Ten days later, Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey tried to reintroduce the first part of the legislation. That failed a Senate vote on October 20. Then the Democrats took part of the defeated jobs bill and introduced the $60 billion Rebuild America Jobs act. On November 3, the Obama Administration voiced its support for the bill, but it lost in the Senate that day.
To truly see the bald-faced attempts at recreating the failed attempts of the FDR era to stimulate economic recovery (which contributed to a ten-year depression) one need look no farther than the newly-minted 21st Century Works Progress Administration, launched by Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey. Supported by the president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Thomas Buffenbarger, who voiced his support on the Democratic Socialists of America labor blog and just happens to also be a member of the executive council of the AFL-CIO, the new WPA was also cheered on by Paul Krugman in the New York Times.
Of course, the new WPA legislation doesn’t say how many jobs would be created. But the National Taxpayers Union Foundation estimated the cost at $250 billion over the next two years.
As if that frightening reenactment of Roosevelt’s failed policies weren’t enough, Obama also champions the resurrection of another FDR program with the creation of the 21st Century Civilian Conservation Corps. That little idea would cost the American taxpayers a gigantic $1.45 trillion.
And how about the Emergency Jobs to Restore the American Dream Act? It would cost $100 billion.
Fool Me Twice doesn’t miss another salient aspect of the government-creates-jobs plans of the left: the empowerment of unions. And with unions increasingly threatening those who challenge their authority, and union pensions choking the economy, the point is well-taken.
The details of Obama’s plans are economically horrifying. And
Fool Me Twice doesn’t sugarcoat the bitter pill Obama wants the American taxpayer to swallow.
